Poeciilidae
Poecilia
8.00 cm
Males to 8 cm females to 6 cm
Semi-aggressive, Community, Other
Overall peaceful species, males can become aggressive toward one another during breeding. Males also can harass females and cause stress . Ensure to provide adequate cover to mitigate overzealous males.
Insectivore, Herbivore, Omnivore, Other

Wild caught, kept Outdoors Colony Style ambient temperature is kept in the mid 70s (73) the other use of a portable heater winter temperatures fluctuate to the upper 60 (68 low) range and summer temperatures Peak in the upper 80s (82-88) avg. 86, to low 90s(Red Zone Temp!) on the extreme range of fluctuation. specimens were collected locally from a drainage tributary from a major river. (Colorado River) AZ, USA. (Invasive)
Surface
Fish observed in shallow drainage in the wild. Drainage had adequate flow and riparian veg. Water appears to be acidic as indicated by tannins present in water body. Fish observed on surface at collection point, and reflect the same behavior while observed in captivity. A response to feeding may be the cause for this behavior, as the fish were observed similarly feeding in the wild.
Other
Livebearer (viviparous)
20 fry
N/A ( NONE OBSERVED)
Parents do not predate on Fry as observed when provided with adequate cover. Parents have fry (best estimation), every "four to five weeks" a new batch of fry is present in the enclosure. This correlates with other experiences, and previously known data to estimate a gestation period of roughly 30 to 45 days.
that in spite of large yield females produce a moderate yield of 15 to 25 a large viable offspring. Fry are more robust and sturdy simular to Goodeids.
Parents are kept in a 20 long with hornwort (ceratophyllum subersum) and rock piles. Use of deep substrate and under gravel filter have been implemented. Kept in a species only setup, no significant steps taken to induce breeding. Started with trio 1(M) 2(F), now a ratio of 1:1 M/F in colony.
